It’s important to analyze these values and then determine where, when, and how to use these paints!
So, first and foremost, one of the most important terms that I usually observe getting ignored is Light Reflectance Values (LRV)!
Every color has an associated Light Reflectance Value!
For Sherwin Williams Natural Linen, the LRV is 66!
Which falls on the medium end of the scale – and somehow aligns on the lighter end!
Remember, the higher the value, the lighter the paint color is!

How Does This Color Feel in a Space?
View this post on Instagram
Sherwin Williams Natural Linen is a beige paint color that feels undeniably warm, cozy, comfortable, versatile, and creamy.
Even though it falls under the “yellow” category – it somehow isn’t a true yellow. Yes, it feels creamy and neutral, all at the same time!
Furthermore, this paint color is responsible for making your room appear larger, enhanced, and airier. (Yes, of course, due to the high reflectivity value)
This color has a certain depth and character to it – so, regardless of the situation, it will never feel white to you. (Which most of the neutral colors tend to feel)
Lastly, this color must be used in colder regions where you constantly crave a sense of warmth and coziness.
How Does Light Affect the Color?
Light has a major role to play in this paint color.
Well, the more light you give to it – the more enhanced and creamy it will appear.
Well, this is one reason why I recommend my clients to examine the color swatch in various lighting conditions to know the true undertone.
This color, in particular, can appear slightly creamy in the west and south-facing rooms and slightly cool in the north-facing rooms.
It can also appear slightly greenish when the window faces the front lawn.
Lastly, you can always use artificial lighting with a saturation of warm whites or neutral whites to further streamline the vibe and ambiance.

What are the Best Coordinating Colors?
Creating color palettes can be quite a fun task to do!
So, it’s crucial for you to choose the best complementary colors in order to define a palette that looks eye-catchy and cohesive.
And believe me, you can create any vibe you want – with this timeless and versatile paint color.
Beiges, in general, can look amazingly well with sage greens, darker emerald greens, lighter grays, bronze, taupes, charcoal blues, and creamy whites.
And other than that, you have a wide plethora of color opportunities and options to pair with!
However, you have to be careful as to what vibe you need in your space for a perfect color combination.
So, I am going to enlist the two most popular color schemes here – monochromatic and contrasting.
Monochromes are generally great for modern and contemporary setbacks.
On the other hand, Eclectic, Mid-Century Modern, and Farmhouse play well with contrasts.
So, here are a few of the colors I would recommend for a monochromatic palette!
- SW 9110 Malabar
- SW 9111 Antler Velvet
- SW 9112 Song Thrush
On the other hand, here are a few of the colors I would recommend for a contrasting color palette!
- SW 7551 Greek Villa – see my full guide here
- SW 6207 Retreat – see my full guide here
- SW 7667 Zircon
For your ceilings, trims, and moldings – SW Extra White or SW Pure White will help protrude a true hue of SW Natural Linen.
SW Natural Linen Vs Similar Colors
Although you must know that even though these following colors look similar, they might still differ in the undertones or reflectivity!
So, one of the closely related colors are SW 7531 Canvas Tan and BM AF-55 Sonnet!
Let’s see how all of them differ.
Natural Linen Vs Canvas Tan
SW Canvas Tan is a beautiful warm neutral that doesn’t reflect a pink or yellow undertone.
With an LRV of 64 – this color is slightly darker than the former paint color.
You can best pair this color with sage greens, darker browns, creamy whites, and lighter grays.
Note that this color feels even more neutral than SW Natural Linen.
To see how these look in your home, get some large square samples and try on your walls with different lighting sources.
Natural Linen Vs Sonnet
BM Sonnet is a lighter beige paint color that almost feels like an off-white.
With an LRV of 70.4 – this color is the lightest of them all!
Furthermore, this paint color doesn’t feel too yellow or pink – rather, it’s neutral with no undertone inclinations.
To truly experience and compare these colors in real-time be sure to buy some stick-on samples and test them in your home.

In the living and dining rooms, this color can play a great versatile role on all the walls of your space.
You can best complement this color with darker and lighter beiges from the same family, blues or greens on the throw pillows and accessories, and creamy whites on the ceiling.
Furthermore, this color looks absolutely beautiful with exposed wooden shelves and built-in cabinetry.
For an airier vibe, try adding white sheer curtains and some cozy, off-white throw pillows on the couch for a cohesive look.
Lastly, don’t hold back from macrame and bleached hardwood floors.
Using in Bedrooms
In the bedrooms, you can consider painting all the walls in this paint color.
You can also choose a darker color on the accent wall or even play with wall paneling, wall molding, and wallpaper.
You can choose matte black for the hardware finish and ample wooden textures to go.
Even leather works well – so, you can choose a similar material and finish for the headboard and accent chairs.
Lastly, for a cozier vibe – add shag, faux, or fur rugs for a welcoming experience.
Natural Linen in Kitchens
This color is bound to look warm and welcoming on the kitchen cabinets as well as the backdrop wall.
The hardware could either be matte black, flat black, satin brass, chrome, or bronze! Yes, they’re all bound to work.
Secondly, you can choose a white marble countertop and a darker color for the lower cabinets as well.
For the backsplash, you can either choose a contrast emerald green or dark blue mosaic or even bronze for a visually contrasting appeal.
If you want a monochromatic appeal – choose a similar-toned tile for the backsplash.
Using on Exteriors
Especially for the Craftsman, Ranch-style, Mid-Century Modern, and Mediterranean homes, this paint on the exteriors is bound to add a welcoming and timeless vibe.
You can play with Spanish interlocking tiles on the roof and crisp white paint for the trims and moldings, door and window frames.
Furthermore, if you have porches and columns – either choose greige, gray, or beige paint or natural stone wainscotting.
If you want to create a contrast and visual appeal on the facade – choose a dark blue or dark sage green color on the entryway door.
Great Paint Sample Tip!
Here’s my favorite tip when it comes to testing out a color like Natural Linen – go and order a peel-and-stick sample from Samplize.
These guys figured out a great way to sample colors much more easily. Simply stick it up instead of having to get a small can of actual wet paint.
For a few bucks you get a nice sized square to throw up temporarily anywhere you want to “try” on a paint color and any possible coordinating hues you like. Too cool!
